Harrison this weekend

Just a "Harrison in October" update.

For whatever reason, he loves to hang out in the bed of my truck. To some this is known as the redneck playpen, I suppose because the tot's owners can drink beer at the tractor-pull or the dirt racetrack and know the kids are corralled. I think Harrison likes it just because it gives him good concealment for peekaboo.

Harrison/Danza surprised me with this outfit on Saturday. I hadn't seen it before, and I just think he wears it well. We saw the full spectrum of emotions at breakfast that morning.

Nana knitted Big H a pumpkin hat. So did Elvira, but I don't have any pictures of that one yet. He looks just like another pumpkin on the front porch.

More Dix River...but video this time

In the previous post I forgot to include a few videos of the fishing trip. Granted, these are for my fishing buddies so if you're only interested in Harrison updates you can stop reading now. I haven't taken him fishing, yet.

A short clip of the dizzy'ing trip up the Dix dodging the blow-downs and widow-makers littered across and in the river. I'd probably knock out my camera man if I wasn't paying attention behind the wheel.

Leaves falling on the water as we fish our way downstream.

Motoring up the spillway. Only possible in high water. The dam holding back the reservoir is a hydroelectric station, so depending on how many generators they have running, the water level on the Dix can change significantly. In low water I wouldn't be doing this. We would pull the boat through by hand because it gets too shallow to run the motor without smashing into the boulders on the bottom. Of course in high water the rapids are bigger and I tend to get drenched in the process. PFDs a must especially in my dainty little boat.

You can thank Dre for the play-by-play.

Dix River last weekend

My friend Andre and I headed to the Dix River in Kentucky last weekend to fly fish. He and his two brothers purchased a "river house" at the mouth of the Dix a couple years ago, so fortunately we no longer have to camp and we have all the amenities of home (almost). Some pictures of the trip:

High Bridge, KY: Here is some info I stole off of a Kentucky history website, "High Bridge, designed by Charles Shaler Smith, was one of the engineering wonders of its age. With its cantilevered span soaring 275 feet above the river, it was the highest bridge in North America—and the highest railroad bridge in the world."

This bridge is right where the Dix River meets the Kentucky River and is about a quarter mile by boat to Andre's river house. This is an early morning shot of it.

The leaves were falling in the canyon, everywhere. Made for very picturesque fishing.

The Dix River and the Kentucky River are known for the "palisade" cliffs that surround it. The cliffs average over 200 feet tall for miles, and the rock is the oldest exposed rock in the state. Something like 450 million years, give or take a few.

Dre with a nice brown caught right at the base of the dam.

Some of the palisades from a different angle.

Fall is here!

A fine fat rainbow trout.

Big boys face forward

Harrison's car seat did a 180 recently. He has been mesmerized by all the roadway scenery since.

Video request from L.A.

Danza, while basking in the California sunshine, asked that I post a video or two of Harrison demonstrating his trademark move. I hope this is the video you were talking about, Danza.
